Season of Court-Induced Takeover Hits Nigeria Aviation

This is not the best of times for Nigerian airlines. As it stands, none is immune to turbulence.

In recent times ,trouble has been moving from one airline to the other and for those airlines that are yet to encounter trouble, it seems to be a matter of time.

On February 9 2017,the world was greeted with the news of the takeover of Nigeria,s largest airline; Arik Air, by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON)due prolonged debt issue following an injuction from the court.
Also, on February 14 2017,  AMCON took over Odengene Air-Shuttle Services (OAS) Helicopters in Lagos over alleged indebtedness  following a court order as well. OAS is one of the leading helicopter chatter service companies in the country.

It was also the same AMCON that in year 2016 took over and is now Nigeria's oldest domestic airline; Aero Contractors in 2016.
However, all the affected airlines share one thing in common:they were among the airlines that benefited from the intervention fund released to domestic airlines during the era of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The question now is :which Nigerian airline is not owing? Is AMCON going to float its own airline with these acquisitions? What are the other airlines doing to ensure that the same fate that befell Aero, Arik and OAS does not befall them? This is indeed a time of deeper reflections for owners and operators of airlines in Nigeria.
I do not want to express pessimism over these takeovers but I just hope AMCON will revive the airlines as promised. It is a matter of time for the true picture will be clear.
