Several people injured as explosion rocks CBN office
An explosion has rocked the office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Calabar, Cross River State.
The explosion occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Several persons, especially site workers, were said to have been injured.
As at press time, the fire had been put out.
The Bank said the explosion was caused by a leaking gas cylinder.
The cylinder was said to be in the part of the premises of the bank under reconstruction.
It was being used by the site workers when it exploded.
The CBN Director of Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, said: “There is a gas explosion from the construction area of our premises there.
“There is no fatality yet.
“A few persons who were injured have been taken to the hospital.
“The Fire Service personnel responded promptly and they have been able to put out the fire.”
