Ghana Aviation Award Confirms Arik Air West Africa’s Best Airline

 Nigeria’s largest Carrier; Arik Air has been has been crowned West African Airline of the year by the Ghana Aviation Awards in recognition of her achievement in “business leadership and commitment to safety”.

In a statement made available to the Media, Arik Air the Spokesman of Arik; Mr. Adebanji Ola said “The West African Airline of the Year Award is a crowning glory for Arik Air’s eight years of operation in Ghana and the rest of the region which began with the inauguration of flights to Accra in January 2008”.

Mr. Ola continued that ” Today, Arik Air operates from Lagos to 10 West and Central African cities, namely Accra (Ghana), Cotonou (Benin), Monrovia (Liberia), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire), Banjul (Gambia), Dakar (Senegal), Douala (Cameroon), Luanda (Angola) and Libreville (Gabon)”

The statement also disclosed that the airline was the first African carrier to create a hub at Kotoka International Airport, Accra with flights from Lagos and Abuja arriving into Accra before connecting to other West African countries. Arik Air operates to six cities non-stop from Accra which include, Freetown (3 weekly), Banjul (4 weekly), Dakar (3 weekly), Monrovia (3 weekly), Lagos (3 times daily) and Abuja (daily).

Commenting on the award, the Chief Commercial Officer of Arik Air; Mr. Suraj Sundaram said “This year marks the tenth anniversary celebration for Arik Air as the largest airline operating in West and Central Africa, so it is very encouraging to receive this award which demonstrates the increasing recognition not only from the travelling public but also from industry partners”

Mr. Suraj reaffirmed that Arik Air as a young company will continue to improve on her achievement as a major player in the economies of West African States by “continually improving and expanding our service offering in the region”.

The Award Ceremony which was held at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra, Ghana at the weekend also honoured other airlines, companies and individuals who are stakeholders in the Ghana Aviation sector.

According to Mr. Richard Abbey Jnr, Events Director at Xodus Communications Limited and the host of the awards ; "This industry gathering and networking forum champions excellence and improve business relationships".

This year’s award is the maiden edition of National Aviation Industry Awards and the only Award that gives  recognition to the Ghanaian aviation industry.
