Again, Aviation Fuel Shortage Grounds Domestic Flights

Super Eagles and Watford Football Club of England forward, Odion Ighalo, was one of the passengers stranded in Lagos yesterday as perennial fuel scarcity again bit harder nationwide. The Guardian gathered that the limited available supply had gone to about N250 per litre with marketers demanding for money before each supply. Besides the hike of 100 per cent, compared to the price offered some months ago, most of the airlines had
difficulties doing cash-and-carry as now demanded by marketers.
Except for airlines like Air Peace, Aero Contractors, Dana Air, Azman and Med-View airlines that operated some of their schedules enroute Lagos, Abuja and Kano, others, including Arik Air summarily grounded their operations, leaving passengers waiting for
long hours.
Spokesman for Arik Air, which operates the largest number of flights daily, Banji Ola, confirmed that it has been tough to get aviation fuel.Ola said that the marketers were getting the products in trickles and far short of the daily requirement to carry about 120daily flight operations nationwide.

FAAN: Power Supply Restored to Lagos Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said Monday that electricity supply had been fully restored to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
According to FAAN’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Yakubu Dati, the power supply was restored at about 10.50a.m. on Sunday after two days of interrupted power supply.
Dati said the engineers successfully corrected all defaults, adding that normalcy had been restored to the affected areas.
He said that the power surge at about 8.56p.m. on Saturday adversely affected the k16 transformer that serves the E-Wing Air-bridges and rendered them unserviceable.
“This affected operations of some departing flights as the heavy rainfall further delayed attempts by engineers to effect repairs immediately,’’ he said.
Dati assured the public of safety and security at the nation’s airports and apologised to the passengers and airlines for the inconvenience caused by the interruption.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that flight operations at the international terminal of the MMIA on Saturday and Sunday were disrupted following the power outage.

Stakeholders Praise Govt for Cargo Flights into Enugu

Aviation stakeholders have praised the Federal Government for facilitating cargo flights into the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
They noted that former Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, should get kudos for actualising the government’s plan of making Enugu an international airport during her tenure.
They said with the commencement of cargo flights into Enugu Airport, businessmen and women can now bring in their cargoes seamlessly.

Effective Crew Communication Boosts Flight Safety
Unfamiliarity and lack of good communication between the cockpit and cabin crew complicates air safety. Keeping the same cockpit and cabin crews together as often as possible would engender air safety. WOLE SHADARE writes
The factor
Many factors have influenced the quality of communication between the cockpit and cabin crews over the years. But one factor that should be of utmost concern is the growth of the industry. Within small airlines, communication between the crew is rarely a
problem; the same cockpit and cabin crews fly together often and tend to know each other quite well. As an airline grows, so does the number of crewmembers
