Nigeria’s Foremost Domestic Airline; Aero Contractors Suspends Operations Indefinitely
The Nigerian
economy is biting hard on individual s and businesses. Many businesses are
struggling and airlines are the worst hit as every aspect of airlines business is
dollar-driven.
Now Aero
Contractors Airline which used to be the pride of the aviation sector in
Nigeria can no longer sustain scheduled flight operations! From tomorrow,
September 1, 2016 Aero….the reliable way
to fly will go off the radar indefinitely. Members of staff have also been
sent on compulsory leave of absence pending when the airline is able to resume
flight services.
This is
shocking but it is the reality as announced by the Chief Executive Officer of
the airline; Capt. Fola Akinkuotu.
A statement
from Akinkuotu says Aero will suspend scheduled flight services from September
1 to re-strategize and re-position the airline to profitability.
The statement
by Capt. Akinkuotu reads “The impact of the external environment has been very
harsh on our operational performance, hence management decision to suspend
scheduled services operations indefinitely effective September 1, 2016 pending when the external opportunities and a robust sustainable and
viable plan is in place for Aero Contractors to recommence its scheduled
services. The implication of the suspension of scheduled services operations
extends to all staffs directly and indirectly involved in providing services as
they are effectively to proceed on indefinite leave of absence during the period
of non-services,”
He added that
“We are aware of the impact this will have on our staff and our highly esteemed
customers, hence we have initiated moves to ensure that we are able to return
back to operations within the shortest possible time, offering reliable, safe
and secure operations, which the airline is known for.”
As Nigerians
prepare to witness solar eclipse tomorrow September 1, 2016 one just hopes this
does not mark the final eclipse of Aero Contractors?
